Packing Tips For A Relaxing And Refreshing Weekend Getaway

In theory, packing for a weekend is not exactly rocket surgery. Then again, many people tend to get carried away and forget that packing should be done in accordance to the weather, destination and the activities you intend to engage in. Irrespective of whether you’re going away for two days or two weeks, some of the things you can’t do without include your toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, hair and skin care products you use on a daily basis and prescription medication, if you’re taking any. Following are some other things to think about when preparing your luggage for a weekend getaway.

•    Don’t pack more, pack smart

Don't pack a lot

The trick to making the most out of your weekend getaway is to pack intelligently. To put it simply, instead of trying to fit a quarter of your wardrobe in a suitcase, identify and pack items and accessories that can be used in multiple ways. For example, instead of packing a large towel, a scarf and a skirt, you could simply bring a sarong. As far as shoes are concerned, pack a pair that goes with most of your outfits.

•    Consider wearing the same outfit

If you want to save a considerable amount of space in your luggage, then find a comfortable outfit that you can wear on your way to your destination and on the way back.

•    Pack clothes that you actually like and wear

In case you usually wear dresses and skirts, then you should be packing these clothes for your trip. If you decide to put jeans, pants or shorts in your luggage, you are just wasting valuable space. Not to mention that you won’t feel comfortable wearing them once you reach your destination.

•    Keep your luggage light

Granted, you’re going away for the weekend to get away from the busy city and relax. While it’s true that you want these days to be as comfortable as possible, you should be careful and avoid packing heavy items. For instance, if you’re a big fan of novels and enjoy reading, chances are you might be tempted to bring some books with you. However, a better alternative in this case would be to pack your iPad and purchase some magazines on the road.

•    Always be prepared

Since you only have a couple of days for some R&R, you will want to spend them wisely. Therefore, take the time to do some research on your destination and prepare a schedule. If possible, it wouldn’t hurt to save tweets, articles, quotes and travel tips on your smartphone or tablet, so you refresh your memory in case you forget about an event or a tourist attraction.

A final word

In addition to packing, you should also make sure you have a suitable vehicle that can comfortably accommodate you and your loved ones. In case your automobile is relatively small, then renting a larger vehicle from a car rental service is a good option. Booking a vehicle also makes sense if you own an older car or if you mainly use your vehicle for work-related activities.
